The Arizona is the sandal that turned Birkenstock from a German orthopaedic brand into a global wardrobe staple, and it's easy to see why it's stuck around since 1973. Two adjustable straps, a contoured footbed, and a silhouette that's stayed almost unchanged for half a century — there's a quiet confidence in a design that doesn't need to chase trends.

This leather iteration takes the familiar shape and gives it a more grown-up finish. The smooth upper softens and develops character with wear, picking up the subtle creases and patina that make a well-loved pair of leather sandals feel like yours and no one else's. The cork-and-latex footbed is shaped to support the arch, cradle the heel, and give your toes room to spread out the way feet are actually meant to. Wear them consistently and the footbed moulds to the unique contours of your feet, creating a custom fit that genuinely improves over time. A shock-absorbing EVA sole keeps things light, while the jute lining adds breathability for warmer days.

Both straps adjust via metal pin buckles, so you can fine-tune the fit across the instep and forefoot — useful if your feet swell in the heat or if you're between sizes. They run in regular and narrow widths, and the standard advice applies: if you're between sizes, size down.
